How I give back to the community

Giving back is part of who I am. I believe in generosity without guilt and giving as a part of a healthy financial plan.
As someone who grew up with advantages that not everyone receives (being born a white woman raised in the suburbs by loving parents, with a Dad who modeled both financial wisdom and entrepreneurship), I recognize how much of a head start I had. Not everyone gets that. And that's exactly why I’m passionate about paying it forward.
My Philosophy on Giving
I’ve experienced firsthand how generosity can shift energy, transform lives, and accelerate abundance. Giving has been a part of my personal financial journey since the very beginning, and not just when it was easy. I started with $5 a week to a local homeless shelter while recovering from my own financial rock bottom. It wasn’t about the amount. It was about the intention and the consistency.
Today, I give both continuously and spontaneously, with purpose and joy. Generosity isn’t just something I do; it’s part of who I am.
Organizations I Passionately Support
I choose to support organizations that align with my mission: to empower people (especially those in underserved communities) with financial literacy and entrepreneurial tools so they can build lasting wealth and legacies.
MORTAR
MORTAR helps historically marginalized entrepreneurs in Cincinnati build businesses, uplift their communities, and access financial knowledge and capital. 87% of MORTAR students are entrepreneurs of color, and 67% of their graduates are black women.
Their model is about dignity, access, and long-term change, and I’m honored to be a long-time supporter and volunteer subject matter expert.
First Generation Leaders of America
First Generation Leaders of America empowers low-income junior high, high school, and college-age students to increase their financial literacy and business-building skills.
I partner with them to provide students with copies of Money is Emotional as part of their Building Financial Futures (BFF) for Teens program and as a sponsor of the Money Moves Summer Camp. Because understanding money shouldn’t be reserved for the privileged few.
A Legacy of Giving
For over 25 years, I’ve been a monthly donor to Fairhaven Rescue Mission, which supports those experiencing homelessness with meals, shelter, and hope.
Whether it’s long-term partnerships or spontaneous generosity, giving is one of the most joyful parts of my financial life.
Because when we give freely from a place of love and abundance, we don’t just change others’ lives, we expand our own.
